PROGRESS OF THE BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING IN LUXEMBOURG

PUBLISHED ON 16/11/2017

On November 14th, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and technology (LIST) participated in the conference BIMLUX 2017 that was organised by CRTI-B in collaboration with Neobuild, OAI and LIST. This year edition aroused interest for more than 250 participants from the Greater Region – public institutions, architects, engineers, contractors, Building Information Modeling (BIM) specialists - all players from the building sector were represented.

LIST’s stand encountered a great success and the IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) team onsite - Sylvain Kubicki, Annie Guerriero, Lou Schwartz, Elie Daher and Fabrice Absil – was very appealed to introduce and explain their research works carried out as part of the 4D Collab project about collaboration around 4D modelling and the collaborative table of Immersion. The project focuses on the usage and interaction of synchronous 4D simulation for collaborative decision support in Architecture, Engineering and Construction. Other ongoing projects at LIST were also presented to the audience:

BIM4VET aiming at developing a European skills matrix for BIM actors and a method for assessing the maturity of skills using a tangible interface. This will enable the recommendation of trainings according to the selection of skills to be acquired and the actual BIM maturity of the professionals.

BIMEET aiming at enhancing the skills, qualifications and capabilities of construction practitioners (from middle and senior level professionals to blue collar workers), thus increasing market penetration and the adoption of key technological development in BIM, given the timeliness of the need for training in combined green and functional performance engineering.
and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) topic, where BIM and CIM (City Information Model) support the Life Cycle Analysis in the view of developing  research in sustainable technologies and methodologies for Smart City, a promising trend for our IT and Environmental experts.

The conference honoured the BIM “Made in Luxembourg” and analysed it from different angles from sustainable development to politics, with a special focus on its recent development. The conference welcomed Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, who presented the government vision of the “Digital Luxembourg” and one of the talks was given by Sylvain Kubicki, a LIST BIM researcher.

BIMLUX2017 was a success and raised lots of interest among participants who came visit our stand.
