Luxembourg Science Center Set for Significant European Expansion | #STEM #Europe | Luxembourg (Europe) | Scoop.it

On Friday 21 September 2018, Luxembourg's government cabinet agreed to the signing of a letter of intent which provides for a significant expansion of the Luxembourg Science Center, making it a flagship institution for the promotion of science at the European level.

The feasibility analysis of this major project is to be entrusted to an Economic Interest Group (EIG), which will involve representatives of the private (Groussgasmaschinn, Arcelor Mittal) and public (government, City of Differdange) sectors.

Located in Differdange, the Luxembourg Science Center offers a multitude of interactive workshops and experimental stations that invite the public, especially children and young people, to discover science and technology and aim to develop their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Since opening in October 2017, the centre has already welcomed some 45,000 visitors, including more than 22,000 children and young people for school or extracurricular activities.

From the design phase, the Ministry of National Education, Childhood and Youth was one of the main promoters of the Luxembourg Science Center. Supporting the centre in its mission to educate young people about the jobs of the future required for the 21st century economy, the ministry has invested more than €8 million in the project.
